As a recruiter, Rebecca Patt specializes in searching for restaurant executives. In recent weeks, Patt has reluctantly taken on the role of pet detective, searching for her beloved tabby cat, Biscuit.
“I’ve pretty much dropped everything in life except for work,” she said. “I am determined to find Biscuit.”
Since Biscuit went missing in December, Patt has flooded the Brawley School Road peninsula with hundreds of fliers in hopes of driving people to her website, www.findbiscuit.com, where she has posted several photos. The site has generated 800 hits, and more important, Biscuit sightings.
“I’m getting leads every day,” Patt said. “They are telling me that they’ve seen a cat that they think looks like Biscuit. Sometimes, it runs away if you try to get too close to it.”
Biscuit tends to hide in sheds and explore crawl spaces. Patt recommends enticing him with tuna, his favorite treat.
She’s posted links to her website on Craigslist, as well as several Facebook pages, including Brawley School Road- Community Forum, Downtown Mooresville and Mooresville Weekly.
She’s canvassed several neighborhoods, even going as far as to set up a motion-activated wildlife camera in neighbors’ yards. So far, she’s gotten pictures of a raccoon, chipmunk and another cat.
The extensiveness of Patt’s search has drawn ire from at least one Twitter user, whom tweeted: “Whoever lost there cat named biscuit in Mooresville please do us all a favor and #shutthe****up.”
Patt remains unfazed by the gripe. She’s had many people post supportive comments on her website. Some say they will check their neighborhoods, while others recall their experiences losing pets.
“It breaks my heart to see your signs,” wrote one visitor. Another, from out-of-state, encouraged Patt not to lose hope: “I feel intuitively that Biscuit will come home.”
Patt, who moved to Mooresville a year ago, said meeting neighbors and getting support from the community has helped make the daunting search for her cat much more bearable.
“I feel like there are hundreds of people looking for Biscuit,” she said.
