Bench commemorates hardware owner, postmaster
by Staff Writer
MOORESVILLE – The Mooresville Beautification Committee recently dedicated a bench in front of the Mooresville Graded School District given by Margaret Johnston Kennette Haley in honor of her grandfathers, W.C. Johnston and John M. Kennette.
Johnston owned W.C. Johnston Hardware at the corner of Moore and Main in the early days of the town. Kennette worked at the mill for 23 years and was the postmaster from 1934 until his death in 1946.
The bench was given through the Beautification Committee’s Community Gift Catalogue, a program offering benches, tree plantings and other items for honorariums or memorial gifts.
