CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte Folk Society will offer its annual Marilyn Meacham youth scholarship to the Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College this year.
Meacham was the founder of the CFS, and the award aims to perpetuate traditional music. The scholarship covers the $485 tuition fee and a $385 room and board fee. Winners choose from one of a number of week-long programs at the school this summer.
Eligible applicants are students or folk musicians, either instrumental or vocal, playing at the intermediate or advanced level. They must also be between the ages of 12-21 and either a Charlotte Folk Society member or resident of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln or Union counties in N.C. or Lancaster or York counties in S.C.
