South Iredell Senior Center releases February schedule

MOORESVILLE – The South Iredell Senior Center has announced its February schedule. The center is located at 202 N. Church St. Details: 704-662-3337 or www.iredellcoa.com.



Mondays
• CROCHET CLASS: Seniors crochet 10 a.m.-noon.
• WOMEN BILLIARDS: Women play billiards at 2 p.m.



Tuesdays
• MEN’S BILLIARDS: Men play billiards at 9 a.m.
• WALKING GROUP: Seniors walk away the pounds at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• CHAIR EXERCISES: Seniors do chair exercises 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wear comfortable clothes. Bring hand weights or water bottles.
• TAX HELP: The AARP helps seniors file income taxes 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 7-April 11, at the War Memorial Building. Appointments are not taken. The free service is offered first-come, first-served.
WRITING MEMORIES: Seniors write down their memories at 10:30 a.m.
• TABLE TENNIS: Seniors play table tennis 1-2 p.m.



Wednesdays
• ART: Seniors do art projects 9 a.m.-noon.
• MAH JONGG: Seniors play mah jongg at 9:30 a.m.
• NEEDLEWORK: Seniors do needlework at 1 p.m.
• LINE DANCING: Kathy Strantz leads a line dancing class at 1 p.m.
• MEXICAN TRAIN: Seniors play a form of dominos at 1:30 p.m.



Thursdays
• WALKING GROUP: Seniors walk away the pounds at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• BIBLE STUDY: Lorra Lee Holshouser leads a Bible Study at 10 a.m.
• CHAIR EXERCISES: Seniors exercise in chairs at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Wear comfortable clothes. Bring hand weights or water bottles.
• TAX HELP: The AARP helps seniors file income taxes 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 7-April 11. An appointment is required for the free service. Bring tax papers and a 2011 tax return.
• KNITTING: Carol Steinmetz leads seniors in knitting, crochet and craft projects 1-3 p.m.



Fridays
WOMEN’S WORKOUT: Women work out 9-10 a.m. Bring exercise weights. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers.
• WOODCARVING: Jack Kreckman instructs a woodcarving class 9 a.m.-noon. Tools and materials are required, but can be bought through the instructor.



Feb. 4
• FOLK ART SEWING: Judee Lefler instructs seniors on sewing projects at 9 a.m.
• HEALTH SCREENING: Bayada Home Health Care provides blood pressure screenings 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Feb. 5
• BINGO: Seniors play gift-for-a-gift bingo at 10:30 a.m. Donate a prize to play.
• CARDS: Men play cards at 2 p.m.



Feb. 7
• STROKE SUPPORT: The Stroke Survivor Support Group meets 1:30-3 p.m.



Feb. 11
• QUILTERS GROUP: The Mooresville Centerpiece Quilters Guild meets at 10 a.m. Visitors are welcome. Details: Jean Cable, 704-929-1170.

Feb. 12
• MASSAGE THERAPY: Seniors get massages by appointment. Thirty-minute sessions cost $20. Details: 704-662-3337.

Feb. 13
• DEMENTIA SUPPORT: The Dementia Support Group meets at 2 p.m. The group is designed for caregivers of people with dementia.

Feb. 14
• HEALTH SCREENING: Home Instead Senior Care provides blood pressure screenings noon-2 p.m.
• RUBBER STAMPING: Nancy McKay shows seniors how to create unique greeting cards 1-3 p.m. The class costs $5 at the door. Supplies are included.



Feb. 15
• CRAFTS: Carolyn Hillegeist shows seniors how to create a floating necklace at 10 a.m. Supplies cost $4. Register by Feb. 13.
• DEPRESSION SEMINAR: Synergy Homecare hosts a one-hour seminar, “Depression – What is it?,” at 11:30 a.m. The seminar discusses how to help a loved one cope. A light lunch will be served. Register with a $1 donation to the center.
• VALENTINE’S DANCE: Seniors take their sweethearts to a Valentine’s Day-themed dance 5:30-8 p.m. Bring a snack in a serving container with utensils to share. Admission costs $1. Caregivers are welcome.



Feb. 18
• TAI CHI: Mike Gentile instructs a tai chi class 11 a.m.-noon for advanced students and 12:15-1:15 p.m. for beginners Mondays, beginning Feb. 18. Each class costs $6.
SOCIAL GROUP: The Single Seniors’ group meets to make crafts for Crown Colony residents at noon. The group typically meets on the third Monday of the month to make friends and visit places.
• YOGA: Debbie Wyatt instructs a six-week yoga class 1:30-2:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Feb. 18. The session costs $30. Pay by Feb. 18. Advance registration is required. Details: 704-662-3337.

• MUSICAL BINGO: Bob Warchol, from Pinecrest Independent Senior Living, leads a horse racing game, followed by musical bingo, at 10:30 a.m.



Feb. 22
• HEALTH SCREENINGS: Seniors get Life Line screenings by appointment. Screenings include stroke/carotid artery, arterial fibrillation, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease and osteoporosis. An appointment is required. Details: 800-324-1851.



Feb. 25

• DIABETES SUPPORT: The Diabetes Support Group meets at noon.



Feb. 26
• BINGO: Seniors play gift-for-a-gift bingo at 10:30 a.m. Donate a prize to play.

• HEALTH SCREENING: Lake Norman Regional Medical Center provides blood pressure screenings 1-2 p.m.
• AARP MEETING: The Mooresville chapter of the AARP meets at 2 p.m. The Davie County Senior Choir will perform. Visitors are welcome.



March 4
• BREAST CANCER AWARENESS: A Susan G. Komen for the Cure ambassador discusses breast cancer at 10 a.m.



March 5
• HISTORY PROGRAM: Cindy Jacobs presents a history program in honor of the town’s birthday and Black History Month at 2 p.m.



March 7
• ALLERGY RELIEF: Dr. Roy Lewis, with Lake Breeze ENT & Allergy, leads a seminar on allergy prevention at 11 a.m. A light lunch will be served. Register by March 4 with a $1 donation to the center.



March 8
• FILM SCREENING: Seniors watch episodes from the first season of “Perry Mason” 1-3 p.m.



April 26
• DRIVING COURSE: The AARP offers a drivers safety course noon-4:30 p.m. The course costs $12 for AARP members and $14 for others. Payment is due to the center by April 16. Make checks payable to the AARP. Mail payments to SISC, 202 N. Church St., Mooresville, NC 28115. Include your name and phone number and indicate driver’s safety course.



April 30
• SENIOR GAMES: Seniors learn about the Iredell Senior Games at 12:30 p.m. The event starts with a covered-dish lunch. Bring food to share. Register by April 22. Details: 704-662-3337.
